Gender Inequality

The different forms of discrimination, violence, misunderstanding, injustice, inequality, lack of opportunities, are suffered more than anything by women. In Mexico since 2003, more than 1,000 women have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners, 55 in 2019, and 13.7% of women aged 16 or older have suffered sexual violence (macro survey "Violence against Women 2015).

Gender equality is very important to achieve a peaceful society between men and women, so that we all have the same opportunities, without discrimination, in addition to having the same rights, resources and opportunities.
We should all be aware of the problems of gender inequality, we must have opinions on the subject, to achieve better results.
Inequalities between women and men persist today in all regions of the world, including Latin America and the Caribbean, and are manifested in all areas of their lives, in lower labor insertion, lower salaries, lower representation in decision-making positions, and greater . time dedicated to unpaid domestic and care work, among others.
Inequality is structural, because it is a social construction, determined by the heteropatriarchal system of binary sex/gender, which regulates social relations based on the differences perceived and assigned to men and women. It also turns out to be transversal because it affects all women, that is, a social majority (52%). Due to the fact that they are socially read as women, they experience discrimination, violation of rights and subordination with respect to the other half of humanity.
Violence also conditions the position that women can occupy in society, since both the specific acts of violence themselves, as well as the existence of a latent threat, keep women in a subordinate position.
Gender economic inequalities in Mexico:
The female labor participation rate is substantially lower than that of men:
Women - 41% vs. Men - 73%
The employment rate with respect to the total population:
Women – 40% vs. Men – 70%
Poverty and hunger, which especially affect women: "If I don't have anything to eat, how will I help my family?"
Women make up 70% of the 1.3 billion people living in extreme poverty: that is, even today, women are still more affected than men.
Likewise, women represent more than 60% of the hungry people in the world. For example, 11.1% of African women are below the recommended Body Mass Index. The situation is alarming. Eradicating hunger is one of the fundamental objectives of the work of Manos Unidas, which in 2011 invested 8 and a half million euros in 98 projects to improve the food and agricultural situation in needy countries.
